When sending wheels and tyres, they must be packed appropriately. RIMS/RIMS and TYRES (alloy or steel) must be boxed, or wrapped in cardboard. No exposed bubble wrap or shrink wrap. TYRES can be wrapped in bubble wrap or shrink wrapped, but must be packaged individually - there is no requirement to box these. Failure to comply with these rules will result in the packages being returned to you, and a £10.00 collection fee being deducted. Please read our notes on avoiding surcharges, before sending wheels and tyres with us.
If you are taking out additional insurance cover (exclusions apply), or the wheels are new or refurbished, please follow our packing advice below, as the insurers will reject any claim where the wheels are insufficiently packed. We can also insure tyres.
Please read our advice on securely packing alloy wheels before freight, which can be found below.

How to Send Car Wheels by Courier
Prerequisites:
Bubble wrap
Parcel tape
Double walled cardboard box
A cardboard box must be used for the outer packaging due to COVID-19 handling restrictions.
The most important thing to consider when you send car wheels is that they must be well protected for shipping. All rims and rims and tyres combinations, must be individually boxed, or wrapped in cardboard.
Pay particular attention to the rims, as these can be easily damaged in transit. When packing, cover the rims with a thick layer of cardboard, carpet, or bubble wrap, secured with parcel tape to hold it in place. Attaching cardboard to each rim will help prevent any damage to them during transport.
The next step is to wrap the entire wheel in bubble wrap, we would recommend using 2 to 3 layers of the larger bubble type, as it offers more protection when sending alloy wheels, again using parcel tape to secure the bubble wrap in place. As a guide, if the wheel was dropped from waist height, the bubble wrap must provide sufficient protection to avoid damage.
Once wrapped in bubble wrap, they need to be boxed, or wrapped in cardboard. Please use new double walled boxes, used boxes offer less protection.
When choosing a box, double walled boxes are always better. If you cannot obtain the correct sized box, you can wrap them in cardboard, securely fixed with parcel tape. If there is any space left inside the box, this can be filled with additional bubble wrap, polystyrene loose fill, or screwed up newspaper. The idea is that the wheel cannot move around inside the box during transport.
Once the box has been filled, you can then seal it with parcel tape. Again, make sure that there is sufficient tape used, ensuring that the box does not come open during transit.
Rims must be boxed, or wrapped in cardboard and cannot be sent just using shrink wrap or bubble wrap. Once boxed, the outer box must not be shrink wrapped, as this snags the conveyors, plain cardboard only.
Now that the packing is complete, you just have to attach an address label to each box. Our included insurance cover is up to £50.00, with additional cover available up to £20,000.00 (exclusions apply).
TYRES are acceptable in packaged bubble wrap, cellophane or shrink wrap and are not required to be boxed or wrapped in cardboard. All Tyres to be wrapped individually, in pairs, unless sending one. Please use some form of wrapping, such as cling film, shrink wrap, or bubble wrap, as the parcel labels do not stick to rubber very well and there is a chance that they could come off during transit.

Feline Guitars have been using this small company for a number of years and always had great service and competitive pricing. We had previously used UPS directly till it got to be hard work to communicate with them. The personal attention and help that you can get in an industry that is increasingly automated and hands-off is a welcome thing to have.

Southwell Guitars have been using Overland Express for some years now for sending our guitars worldwide. Most major courier companies do not insure musical instruments but Overland Express have an insurance service that specialise in musical instrument insurance, giving my customers and me peace of mind. I also like that Stuart and Tim are always easy to contact if there are any questions or If I need any help. This was especially helpful after the chaos created by Brexit and the Covid pandemic. Overland Express are my first choice when I am sending guitars, something I do on a regular basis and recommend them to anyone.

I've been using Overland Express now for a number of years. As I send a good number of both electric and acoustic guitars every year, I wanted to find a company that offered reasonable shipping and insurance rates that guaranteed to cover guitars against loss or damage to their true value. Step forward Stuart and Overland Express. They offer top couriers and reasonable insurance costs to send guitars worldwide. In all the time I've used them I've never once had an issue. Service is quick, reliable and it is a real bonus you are able to contact someone quickly who will deal with issues should any arise. Highly recommended.
