At Overland Express we've been delivering wine across the UK and Europe for over three decades. From the French region of Alsace through to Zinfandels from California, we offer a safe and reliable service so you can relax with a glass of your favourite Pinot.
It can be challenging to find a courier willing to deliver wine. Due to their fragile nature, many have decided it's not worth the risk. Overland Express feel that with a little care and attention when packing, you can send wine safely and securely through our network of industry-leading couriers, DHL, UPS, and Parcel Force to name a few. Because we've been in the wine biz for so long, you'll benefit from our volume discount, granting you huge savings on your delivery, plus a fully tracked and signed for service.
We work with wine houses, bars, small businesses through to collectors and private individuals. Whether you want to send a bottle as a gift to your friends and family or your searching for the best service to send cases to customers, We at Overland Express have got you covered. Throughout the UK, we offer next-day delivery and collection can even be the same day if you book before 12PM on the day of sending. We can arrange collection from your home, office, wine warehouse or even auction house at your convenience.
You can send wine to most countries around the world without issues. However, we recommend that you check the laws in the country you're shipping to, as some do require an import license. For the majority of countries, a simple commercial invoice will suffice which is created by Overland Express during the booking process. We provide all customs paperwork free of charge. We can also import wines from most countries, with various road service options throughout Europe.
Please note that we're unable to insure wine due to the bottles being made of glass. So before you send your wine, take the time to read through our packing advice below to minimise any damages. Click our Quick Quote Tool now to see our cost-effective rates for shipping your favourite wine.
How to Send Wine by Courier
Prerequisites:
Bubble wrap
Parcel tape
Strong cardboard box
Packing peanuts
A cardboard box must be used for the outer packaging due to COVID-19 handling restrictions.
When preparing wine for shipping, the most important consideration is that they can easily be damaged. By following a few simple rules, you can significantly reduce any chance of damage whilst in transit. The idea is to stop any movement of the wine within the box, this will lessen the chance of any breakages.
When choosing a cardboard box to send wines in, always use double walled new boxes. Used boxes may not offer sufficient protection to the wine. Also use cardboard dividers where possible. Choose a box that is large enough for your bottles and packaging to fit securely, without excessive space around the bottles.
Please fill any voids with foam chips, or even better, air shock bubble packaging. Air shock packaging is available from most packing suppliers and offers the ultimate in protection. Please note that neither Overland Express, or any of our carriers will accept responsibility for any wine that is damaged in transit, so a little extra care when preparing your wine for shipping will pay dividends.
Once you are happy with the packaging of your wine delivery, tape the box shut with 2 or 3 layers of strong parcel tape, paying attention to any edges that may need additional tape. Don't skimp on the packing tape, as the wine shipments are heavy and the last thing you want, is for a bottle to fall out the bottom of the box, if it is not properly secured. Although we describe it as wine, it is worth writing 'FRAGILE' on the box and affixing fragile labels, or fragile tape, if you have them.
Finally, attach the Overland Express parcel label to the box, together with 3 copies of the commercial invoice (if applicable) these are required when sending wine outside of the United Kingdom, or importing wine to the United Kingdom. All 3 copies of the Commercial invoice must be signed and attached to the outside of the box. If sending multiple boxes, please attach all 3 copies to just 1 of the boxes.
