How to pack DJ equipment for shipping
Prerequisites:
Ideally you should use the manufacturers original packaging where possible. If you no longer have this, a strong double walled cardboard box should be sufficient. Always use new packaging, as used boxes offer reduced protection. When selecting a box, choose one that is a minimum of 50mm larger than the item in each direction, this allows for plenty of packing material to be added.
International delivery of audio equipment
Please pack any plugs or cables separately, to avoid any damage to the item. They can go in the same box, just ensure that sufficient space is left, to avoid any possible contact with the item.
Tape the bottom of the box closed with 2-3 layers of strong parcel tape. Once secured, Line the base of the box with several layers of bubble wrap. Use corner protectors where possible and then wrap the item in 2 to 3 layers of bubble wrap, the larger bubble type offers greater protection. If you do not have corner protectors, these can be made from foam, polystyrene, or additional bubble wrap.
Once wrapped, place the item inside the box and fill any gaps with packaging peanuts or additional bubble wrap. Shake the box from side to side to check for any movement and add more packing material if needed. Once you are happy with the packing, add a further 2 layers of bubble wrap on top of the item before sealing the box closed. We strongly suggest placing the box into another slightly larger box, to provide further protection. Again, add more packing material to fill any voids.
If using a metal flight case for controllers etc, please wrap the case in cardboard. This avoids any potential damage to the case and any problems with refused collections, due to sharp edges. If using a soft case, or DJ bag, please pack it into a larger cardboard box, with adequate packing materials surrounding the case. For shipping vinyl records, consider something like the Power Dynamics range of cases. Again, place this in a larger external cardboard box, with packing materials to hold the case securely in place.
If you are insuring the item, please take a couple of photos that show how the item was packed.
Shipping insurance for DJ equipment
Our optional insurance offers full cover against loss or damage in transit, up to a maximum value of £20,000.00. If sending turntables, they must be in the original manufacturers packaging. This is not required for anything other than turntables.
When using a manufacturers box, please place the parcel into a slightly larger outer box, or wrap in cardboard. This is to obscure any easily identified markings that would indicate the value of the item.
Our additional insurance is charged at 2.00% of the value and is available once you have selected your chosen carrier.
